The yarn is slightly finer than the 4ply we use today to knit stranded colourwork and Fair Isle. This yarn is noticeably smoother and finer than the 2-ply Shetland jumper weight that J&S is famous for. It comes in a range of both dyed and natural Shetland-sheep colours
